About Glenwood Springs Cemetery

Return to Glenwood Springs Cemetery main page
Glenwood Springs cemetery is home to the eternal grave of the famous gunslinger and gambler, John ("Doc") Henry Holliday, D.D.S. A dentist... Actually, no one knows exactly where he is buried in the cemetery, but everyone is certain that he is under the ground there somewhere, and the city erected a tribute headstone for him, arbitrarily located on the west side. The opening photo shows two typical graves, both damaged by vandals, with the left one fixed up again. The remaining headstone is made from marble from nearby Marble (as are many of the headstones in this part of Colorado). Glenwood Springs is of course famous for its hot springs, frequented over time by Indians, miners, and Colorado tourists alike. While not a ghost town, Glenwood Springs is centrally located in Colorado and has a long and varied history, as can be deduced from the tombstone below.
